What to Do if Obamacare Raises Your Health Insurance Price

Have you gotten a shocking increase in your health insurance price?
Talk about sticker shock! What can you do about it?

Why Health Insurance Prices Are Going Up so Much

The big spikes in health insurance prices are mainly hitting people who have had non-Obamacare health insurance plans.

In other words, if you bought your health insurance policy between 2010 and the end of 2013, your plan was probably not compliant with all of the new rules and mandates of the Affordable Care Act. The old plans were able to remain in force through 2014, but next year they have to be ACA-compliant.

While there are benefits to the ACA, the new rules and mandates do result in higher prices.

What You can Do about Higher Health Insurance Prices

There are two answers:

1. Shop around for health insurance

Obviously, we would love to help you compare your options! The market has changed significantly.
In all seriousness, you’ll want an experienced hand to guide you through the Obamacare process and help you assess your options. While we hope you’ll turn to us, if you don’t we suggest you find a broker who specializes in health insurance. It won’t affect your prices at all (in other words – we’re free).

2. Find out if you’re eligible for premium tax credits

Most consumers find their health insurance costs are offset to some degree by premium tax credits that can be applied to their premium each month.
These credits are based on your income and household size – if you make between 100-400% of the Federal Poverty Limit, you’ll be eligible for some level of relief.
You’ll find chart showing the Federal Poverty Limit here.
