In a recent article the Associated Press explained the value of travel insurance, which provides coverage for medical care, medical evacuation, political evacuation, and similar coverages when traveling abroad. (There are also travel insurance policies that cover foreign nationals traveling to the United States). The article is correct in saying that many (but not all) health insurance policies will cover medical emergencies abroad, they generally do not include medical evacuation.
