Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina announced a rate increase of 1-3% for Medicare Supplement policy-holders with policy effective dates prior to June 1, 2010. The increase will take effect beginning October 1, 2011. The change relates to a decision by the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to increase beneficiaries’ out of pocket costs in January. The increased deductible is covered by the Medicare Supplement plan, which is why there is a slight increase in the premium. If your plan started after June 1, 2010, your plan is not affected by this change.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of South Carolina is our preferred provider of Medicare Supplement (“Medigap”) plans for our South Carolina clients, but we’re happy to help you quote other carriers if you’d like to compare rates.
