Does your health insurance plan give you any help with dental costs?
If you have a “BlueEssentials” plan with BlueCross BlueShield of SC (and if you have a Marketplace plan, it’s with BCBS), your plan includes a little bit of help with costs related to preventive dental care.
All BlueEssentials plans include dental allowances for adults and children for exams and cleanings.
Here are the details:
- One exam every six months, $27 allowance first visit and $20 on the second visit.
- One cleaning every six months, $40 allowance per visit for adults over the age of 20, and $31 per visit for a child.
Obviously, this won’t cover all of your costs, so you’re responsible for paying the balance. In order to get this benefit, you must submit a dental reimbursement form to BlueCross.
Here’s the BCBS dental reimbursement form.
You can send in the form via mail, email, or fax. You’ll find all the info you need on the form itself.
(By the way, if you have BlueChoice HealthPlan, you can get info on dental reimbursement here.)
What about Dental Insurance?
While the BCBS dental reimbursement benefit is helpful, it is not dental insurance. It won’t help if you have additional costs from x-rays or need other services like fillings.
The good news is you can get a dental insurance plan for your family that does cover that stuff.
