What do I do if healthcare.gov doesn't work?

So the initial rollout of Healthcare.gov has been… underwhelming.
Hey we’re not here to judge or make a political statement – it’s a new system. It’s trying to coordinate data from a bunch of different federal agencies and transmit information from a bunch of health insurance companies.
And it’s not going well so far. Very few people have managed to get through the process, and many of those who have experienced problems along the way and errors after the fact.
It may take a while to get this right. So where does that leave you if you need health insurance? First, understand this:
You don’t have to go through Healthcare.gov to buy health insurance.
You can find an ACA-qualified plan and enroll for January 1 right now. We can help you do that.
Here’s what you can’t do without the government’s health insurance marketplace:
You can’t buy a new health insurance plan and get any premium tax credits (premium subsidies) if you qualify for them. That’s really the whole point of the government portal. If you make between 100-400% of the federal poverty limit, you would qualify to get some kind of help on your premiums, but to get that you have to register and enroll through the government’s marketplace portal. (And, again, we can help with that too… when it works).

Here’s a chart to help you figure out if you’d be eligible:

Here’s the point: If you’re not eligible for a premium tax credit (if your income exceeds the orange number in the chart), there’s no point in putting yourself through the process on the government’s health insurance marketplace. You can find prices and get coverage through one of many private exchanges. (Dare I say it… we can help you do that).

What if you are subsidy-eligible?
Great question. For now we wait. While we’re waiting, however, we can go ahead and review plans and pricing with you – that information is accessible elsewhere. That way, when things are worked out on their end, you’ll know exactly what you’re going to buy, which will make the process a lot more simple. (We hope!).
