We hope you are staying safe and healthy in these extraordinary times.
Here’s a brief update onĀ the corona virus and your health insurance:
Every health insurance company we know of is providing medically-recommended COVID-19 testing at zero cost to their members. This includes individual plans (Obamacare-compliant plans), short-term health plans, Medicare plans (both Medicare supplement and Medicare Advantage), and group health insurance plans.
Treatment for COVID-19 will be covered like any other illness. So you would have to pay your deductible, etc.
Now is the time to use telemedicine!
Most insurance plans include a telemedicine benefit. Now more than ever, you’ll want to take advantage of telemedicine for routine illnesses, at least as a first step.
(If you don’t have access to telemedicine already, or don’t want to pay to use it, consider a service called freshbenies, which provides a suite of services including telemedicine for $18/month for families.)
What if I don’t have health insurance?
Your best option is to enroll in a short-term health insurance plan. There are several options available, depending on the state in which you reside. One option we often utilize in all the states we serve is National General Insurance. Click here to see their plans and prices.
What if I get laid off and lose my health insurance coverage?
If you or someone you know has lost group health insurance coverage due to job loss, then you’ll be eligible for a Special Enrollment Period to enroll in an individual health insurance plan on or off the Marketplace. You could also opt for a short-term plan if you prefer. Contact us and we can help you figure out your options.
Are we working? Yes!
